Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN) - Italy Universita` di Genova - Italy Universita` di Torino - Italy SECOND MEETING ON CONSTRAINED DYNAMICS AND QUANTUM GRAVITY On the occasion of Tullio Regge's 65th birthday SANTA MARGHERITA LIGURE (ITALY), SEPTEMBER 17-21 1996 SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT Note new deadline - May 31 1996 The INFN and the Universities of Genova and Torino invite all interested researchers and students to participate in the second meeting on Constrained Dynamics and Quantum Gravity, which will take place in Santa Margherita Ligure (Italy) from Tuesday 17 to Saturday 21 September 1996. The purpose of the meeting (as for the first meeting, held in Dubna, 1995) is to bring together workers from Field Theory, General Relativity and related areas to discuss the present status and latest developments in the quantum treatment of gravitational systems. In July 1996 Tullio Regge will celebrate his 65th birthday. His friends and colleagues of the Organising Committee have decided to dedicate this meeting to Tullio in recognition of his outstanding and fundamental contributions to Theoretical Physics. The meeting will end around 6 pm on Saturday 21st September. On Thursday 19th a one-day excursion will be organised. ABOUT SANTA MARGHERITA: Santa Margherita Ligure is a delightful small town on the Italian Riviera, 30 km east of Genova airport. It is located in the Tigullian gulf and unites old navy traditions with the modern comforts of a seaside resort. It was a fishing village in the Phoenician era, and later became one of the most important ports for fishing and red coral. In this century it developed into a prominent tourist resort. This year (1996) is the centennial anniversary for the world wide radio broadcasts that Guglielmo Marconi transmitted from his ship Elettra outside Santa Margherita. The renowned resort of Portofino is only 5 km away. The tourist season lasts from the beginning of June to the end of September. At the time of the meeting the weather is usually warm (average day temperature 20 C) and the atmosphere relaxed. Swim-suits are recommended. Trekking is also possible in the Portofino Park Mountain. Santa Margherita is an excellent base for visiting the Italian Riviera. We will be glad to give information about the most beautiful tourist spots nearby. TRANSPORTATION: Genova's International airport (C. Colombo) has daily connections to Milan, Rome, Frankfurt, Geneva, London, Munich, Zurich. The nearest intercontinental airport is Milan, though there are also good train connections with Rome. Bus transport to and from Genova airport will be arranged. Santa Margherita is also easily reached by train, road (fast motorway), and sea (from Rapallo, 4 kms away). VISAS: Those people needing visas are requested to tell us; an official invitation will be issued. ATTENDANCE AND REGISTRATION: There will be a registration fee of 300,000 Italian Lire to be paid on arrival in Santa Margherita. The registration fee includes: Bus transport from Genova airport to Santa Margherita and back; Coffee breaks; Banquet and Concert; Excursion. Tickets for accompanying persons attending the social events (banquet, concert and excursion) may be purchased. ACCOMMODATION: The organising committee has selected a number of hotels for the participants' accommodation. Unfortunately, there are few inexpensive hotels in Santa Margherita, and the conference period is high season. Please give us your preferences about lodging as soon as possible. The original deadline of the first bulletin (30 June) could be too late! These hotels are classified according to prices: First Class Hotels (****): sea view, single 150,000-220,000, double 230,000-350,000, breakfast included; Second Class Hotels (***): good standard modern hotels, single rooms 110,000-150,000, double 140,000-180,000, breakfast included; Third Class Hotels (**): comfortable family style hotels, single rooms 90,000-110,000, double 100,000-140,000, breakfast included. The above prices are in Italian Lire and include all taxes and service charges. In Santa Margherita there is no camping ground. The participants who have already sent their application forms are kindly requested to give us as soon as possible, by e-mail or fax, their preferences about the hotel class. Others are kindly requested to complete the enclosed registration and accommodation form and return it to the address below AS SOON AS POSSIBLE and no later than May 31, 1996. NO RESERVATIONS CAN BE MADE WITHOUT THIS INFORMATION! We welcome applications by e-mail. Messages sent by e-mail, if not confirmed in a few days, should be sent again. Due to time restrictions there will be a limited number of speakers, therefore those who would like to speak are requested to submit the tentative title of their talk and a short abstract as soon as possible. The organising committee reserves the right to accept or not, subject to approval by the Advisory Committee and to the time available.
