An International Facility
to Study the Highest Energy Cosmic Rays
The Pierre Auger Cosmic Ray Observatory is being built to study the origin and nature of air showers generated by primaries
of energy above 10 19 eV.
The detector will be composed of two sites of 3000 km 2, one in each hemisphere, instrumented with an array
of 1600+1600 Surface Detectors overlooked by a set of
Fluorescence Detectors .
The activities at Torino are shared among
Fluorescence Detector,
Surface Detector,
Atmospheric Monitoring and
Software Development.
